The University of Sussex is a p✘ββublic research university&nbs≤σπ€p;located in Falλδ×mer, East Sussex, England, it is mostly withinβ•​→ the city boundaries of Brighton and Hov₽‌♣e but extends in α®to the Lewes District in its ea ±Ωstern fringe. Its large c☆♠<λampus site is surrounded by the&n←₹→bsp;South Downs National Park an>€ εd is around 5.5 kilometres (3.4 mi) α​from central Brighton. ≥δ♠The university received its Royal € Charter in Augus$∏βt 1961, the first of the plate glass un  φ₽iversity generation,&nb★¥×φsp;and was a founding mem✘♠γber of the 1994 Group of research-inte←✔≥₹nsive universities.

More than a third of its ™‍‌students are enrolled§€ in postgraduate programmes and app∞≠±roximately a third of staff ÷≤ ‌are from outside the Uγ¥₹nited Kingdom. Sussex has∏♥φ a diverse community of near<¶↓ly 20,000 students, wi∞→th around one in three being ↕Ωforeign students, and over 1,000 academics, r₩ ≈epresenting over 140 different na₩& tionalities. The annual income of the insδ←λ✘titution for 2019–20 was £319.6 ↕•≠;million with an expenditur≤$e of £282 million.
